About Adelaide

With rolling hills, pristine beaches, a lively nightlife, galleries, cafes, pubs, bookshops, fashion houses, antique stores, cellar doors and National Parks (all within Adelaide's boundaries!), it's a city you'll want to come back to time and time again...

Whether you want to be entertained, get out and party, or just relax with the family on holiday, Adelaide has something for you. For shopaholics, wander down Rundle Mall and indulge in some retail therapy. There's more than 800 shops to choose from, so you won't run out of options.

If you want to immerse yourself in South Australia's rich arts and culture, stroll along North Terrace - Adelaide's "cultural boulevard." It's home to the Aboriginal Cultures Gallery in the South Australian Museum, Adelaide Botanic Garden and the National Wine Centre. Just around the corner, wander through the fascinating National Aboriginal Cultural Institute - Tandanya.

Food and Wine

Adelaide is the centre of South Australia's booming wine industry. And the closest vineyard is a cork toss from the city centre.

Our climate is perfect for alfresco dining much of the year, and our international influences range from the Mediterranean and Asia. All this makes for a relaxed and high-quality food and wine culture where fine dining, café culture and great pubs and bars mix together. You'll find entire streets devoted to dining.

And any visit to South Australia isn't complete without a visit to Haigh's Chocolates, the only chocolatier in Australia that still imports and roasts their own beans

Giant Pandas

South Australia’s capital city of Adelaide is pulling out the welcome mat for its two most anticipated new residents – Giant Pandas Wang-Wang and Funi. The male and female adult Giant Pandas made their public debut at Adelaide Zoo on 14 December 2009.

Located adjacent to Adelaide’s magnificent Botanic Gardens in the centre of the city, the Adelaide Zoo has undertaken a major renovation in preparation for the pandas’ arrival.

Both Wang-Wang and Funi will enjoy state of the art accommodation, with each of the panda's exhibits equivalent in size to a large house block.

Featuring more than 1800 animals, Adelaide Zoo also offers exclusive behind the scenes tours, enabling visitors to get up close and personal with a variety of creatures, including lemurs, squirrel monkeys, penguins, orangutans and lions. Behind the scenes tours of the Giant Panda exhibit are also available.

Adelaide Zoo is within walking distance to other Adelaide attractions such as the Botanic Gardens, National Wine Centre, South Australian Museum, city shopping, cosmopolitan North Adelaide and the River Torrens.
